Want to try a low impact workout and get great results at the same time? Then start swimming now! Swimming is such a great workout for all ages and any skill level. It doesn’t matter if you have never swam before, it is never too late to start. Not only is it beneficial for all ages, but especially for ages 60+. Below are my top 3 picks of how swimming is most suitable for members over 60 years old.
1. It is a great exercise if you have joint pains. This non-weight bearing
exercise helps to NOT put strain on your bones (like running). Your
body is supported by water the whole time and as a result, no strain
on your joints, it’s a win-win!2. Swimming improves your heart health! All you water aerobic participants,
keep it up! This is a great way to strengthen the most important muscle in
your body. Not only is it good for the heart, but also it helps keep better
blood flow and lowers your chances of getting heart disease.3. Swimming will lower cholesterol. As your body ages, you are prone to
have health issues, especially with cholesterol. It has been proven that aerobic
exercises have been shown to raise levels of HDL, or “good” cholesterol!
These are just three of the benefits of swimming. Still need convincing? Among the points listed above, swimming helps lose weight, lowers stress, improve bone strength, lowers risk of diabetes, and increase muscle tone and strength. Doesn’t it make you want hop in the water?
